What is MJATERSÖL?
It's a nickname that I picked-up while playing soccer in college; & when I started doing freelance design for small businesses and community organizations in 2010, it was the first name that came to mind.
I am MJATERSÖL.
Originally from Ohio, I came to Pittsburgh for work after returning to from backpacking around Europe in 2008.
I earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at the University of Rio Grande and double-minored in photography & marketing.
In 2010 I began working as a freelance graphic designer; working for small businesses and local organizations in my free time. I’ve grown to enjoy the special challenges that being a freelance designer brings and feel that it’s helped me to mature as a person and as a professional.
Whether I’m working with an experience marketing team from a large corporation or a small business owner that just knows they need a website; I bring a positive attitude and a strong work ethic to all of my projects. These testimonials from past clients / employers give some insight into what it’s like working with me.
I love being a designer, but I work to live and not the other way around. I love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, cycling and white water rafting with my wife. I’m an Apple-enthusiast, I take my coffee with far too much sugar and creamer, and did I mention I’m a football fanatic (I once persuaded my wife cut short a vacation in Paris to watch the US men’s national team take-on England at Wembley Stadium). I’m also an active member of my church and volunteer my free time to help with their digital outreach.
I hope that this information has provided you with some insight as to who I am as a person and as a professional.
Understanding the business challenges that a project will address is critical to its success.
Finding the solution that is user-friendly & best addresses the client's unique business opportunity.
Implementing the strategy & design in a manner that fits the clients needs & puts the content first.
Determining the ROI & deciding next actions so that the client can continue building their business.
Great design doesn't happen by accident & it's not magic. My design process is made up of four main steps which describe the types of interaction between the client & designer.
Discovery is a combination of the design brief / client questionnaire, kick-off meeting, & additional research. The purpose of this stage in the design process is to understand the client's business, the unique challenges they face, & how this project will help them achieve their goals.
Ideation, or idea generation, is where brainstorming occurs & solutions to the client's unique challenges are identified. Depending on the type of project, this stage will include the creation of rough sketches or wireframes which will be refined & presented to the client.
The development stage begins once the client has approved one of the concepts presented during ideation. During the development stage, the concept will be further refined to ensure that it helps achieve the client's business goals. This is also when content creation will begin.
Delivery & Evaluation
Delivery includes the final client presentation &, after approval, the subsequent delivery of the project. Evaluation will vary depending on the type of project, but is critical to ensuring that the project has been sucessful.
